Bharat Taxi to Launch Nationwide on January 1, 2026
Mumbai — India is set to see a new entrant in the ride-hailing market as Bharat Taxi, a driver-owned cooperative platform, prepares for its official launch on January 1, 2026. The platform plans to position itself as a direct alternative to established players such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido.
Operated by Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited, Bharat Taxi began pilot operations earlier this month in New Delhi and parts of Gujarat, according to an Economic Times report. Following initial trials, the cooperative is now gearing up for a full rollout in the national capital at the start of the new year.
Bharat Taxi follows a cooperative ownership structure that places drivers at the center of the business. The platform operates on a zero-commission model during its initial phase, allowing drivers to retain the entire fare collected from passengers. The focus remains on income security, ownership, and long-term sustainability for driver-members.
The cooperative claims to be the world’s largest driver-owned mobility network, with over one lakh registered drivers across cars, auto-rickshaws, and bike taxis in Delhi and the Saurashtra region. More than two-thirds of the registered drivers operate cabs, while the remaining members include auto-rickshaw and bike taxi drivers.

The Bharat Taxi mobile application is now live on both Android and iOS platforms and has crossed 75,000 downloads. The app offers transparent pricing, multilingual support, real-time vehicle tracking, and round-the-clock customer support, with passenger safety positioned as a core priority.
Users can choose from multiple ride categories including AC, Premium, non-AC, and XL cabs. The platform also promises pickups within two minutes and competitive pricing. Fare rates start at Rs 30 for up to four kilometers, followed by Rs 23 per kilometer for distances between four and twelve kilometers, and Rs 18 per kilometer beyond twelve kilometers.
With its upcoming launch, Bharat Taxi is seeking to establish a driver-first, cooperative-led model in India’s fast-growing mobility sector, offering an alternative approach to platform-based ride-hailing services.
