Sahakar Taxi to Become India’s Largest Ride-Hailing Platform in Two Years, Says Amit Shah
Gandhinagar — Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Friday said the newly formed Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited is set to become India’s largest ride-hailing company within the next two years, with pilot trials currently underway in Delhi.
Speaking at the inauguration of Earth Summit 2025 in Gandhinagar, Shah said the cooperative taxi initiative has already made significant progress during its testing phase. “We have launched Sahakar Taxi, which will operate as a cooperative and become the largest taxi company of this country in the next two years. We have not opened it to the public yet. Trials are being conducted in Delhi, where 51,000 drivers have been registered,” he said.
Sahakar Taxi has been designed as a driver-owned cooperative platform, aligning with the government’s broader push to strengthen cooperative-led enterprises across sectors. The project falls under the Ministry of Cooperation’s vision to create sustainable income opportunities through collective ownership models.

During his address, Shah also spoke about the growing adoption of natural farming across India. He said more than 49 lakh farmers have already adopted natural farming practices and hold certification for organic produce grown on their farms.
He added that the government, in partnership with Bharat Organics and Amul Organics, is working on establishing a network of laboratories that meet international testing standards. These facilities will support quality testing for both agricultural produce and farmland. Shah noted that Bharat Organics and Amul Organics are currently selling 40 organic food products through their online platforms.
With large-scale driver registration already underway and pilot operations progressing in the national capital, Sahakar Taxi is emerging as a key cooperative-led mobility initiative aimed at reshaping India’s ride-hailing sector.
